Our Children's Group
Children's Italian Dance Group of Milwaukee
under the leadership of Marie Mattia and Susie Christiansen
In existence for 25 years, the Children's Italian Dance Group of Milwaukee is blessed with over 50 talented children, ranging in age from 2 ½ to 14, all of whom have embraced the Italian culture. We celebrate with them authentic folk dancing, costumes, culture and music of Italy. These children dance Italian, sing Italian and are beginning to speak Italian, and they enjoy performing for others at Holiday Folk Fair, the Italian Community Center and, of course, Festa Italiana.
We have a responsibility to see that this beautiful culture survives, and one of the ways to ensure its survival is through our children. We pass down to them our most cherished traditions so that they may be celebrated in the future. These traditions are dear to us, and so are the children - beautiful folk dances and precious, talented children. When the two are combined, it makes for one spectacular performance.
As you enjoy the pictures of their performances, take a close look at our future in its purest form - our children. They are eager, smart, talented and full of spirit. If we don't pass down to them everything we know and hold dear to us, we risk an end to what I believe is one of the most beautiful, colorful cultures in the world - la coltura italiana. Molto grazie al bambini e al genitori. (Thank you very much to the children and to the parents.)
Last but certainly not least, our dance group is moving! The Children's Italian Dance Group will now practice on Monday evenings, from 6:15 - 8:00, at the Italian Community Center. We feel very strongly that the ICC is the best home for our dance group, and also feel that the children will bring something essential to the Community Center.
